Installing Actions in 6.0
in Photoshop Elements
This tutorial will guide you through the installation of a Photoshop action in Photoshop Elements 6.0.

Special notes about our tutorials: The red text indicates a choice from the main menu (at the top). In addition, (gray text) indicates a Windows shortcut key.Learning shortcut keys is totally optional, but highly recommended. Mac users substitute command for ctrl and option for alt to learn these shortcuts. I use photographs from clipart.com to illustrate my tutorials. Our tutorials are copyrighted, but if you have your own site, you may link to this page.

Step 1 Copy the atn file to the following folder. This folder is usually hidden on most computers, so you'll have to type the address in or show hidden files and folders. (You can copy and paste it into an internet explorer window and it'll jump to the folder.)

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\special effects\photo effects

Vista/Windows 7:C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\special effects\photo effects

Mac: \Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects

Step 2 Open the .psd file and save it in that same folder as a png with the same name as the action. You can delete the original .psd file.

Step 3 Delete the thumbnail database:

XP:C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\ThumbDatabase.db3

Vista:C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\ThumbDatabase.db3

Mac: Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US\ThumbDatabase.db3 and MediaDatabase.db3

It will be recreated when you restart.

Step 4 Restart Photoshop Elements. This may take a while, since it is recreating the thumbnail database.
The action is now installed! Check the individual instructions for the individual action for specific requirements before continuing. Some may want you to select a layer's contents, others may need you to choose a color or load a brush.

Step 5 In the effects palette, click the third icon and set the drop-down to all. You should see the icon for the effect. It has the Atomic Cupcake logo on it.
