Installing Actions in 3.0 or 4.0
in Photoshop Elements
This tutorial will guide you through
the installation of a Photoshop action in Photoshop Elements 3.0 or 4.0.
Special notes about our tutorials: The indicates a choice from the main menu (at the top). In addition, (gray text) indicates a Windows shortcut key.Learning shortcut keys is totally optional, but highly recommended. Mac users substitute command for ctrl and option for alt to learn these shortcuts. I use photographs from clipart.com to illustrate my tutorials. Step 1
Close Photoshop Elements if it is running.
|
Step 2
The action folder is the folder that contains both an .atn and a .psd file in it. The folder, the .atn file, and the .psd file will have the same name.
Copy the entire folder to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements X.0\Previews\Effects in Windows
or
System\Applications\Photoshop Elements X.0\Previews\Effects on a Mac (Replacing the X with either a 3 or 4)
|
Step 3
Open the cache folder.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements X.0\Previews\Cache\Effects Cache in Windows or System\Applications\Photoshop Elements x.0\Previews\ on a Mac. (Replacing the X with either a 3 or 4.)
|
Step 4
Delete these 3 files:
CategoryCache.che
ListCache.che
ThumbNailCache.che
These are a list of which actions you already have -- when you delete them it resets the list and adds the new one you just installed.
|
Step 5
The action is now installed! Check the individual instructions for the individual action for specific requirements before continuing. Some may want you to select a layer's contents, others may need you to choose a color or load a brush.
|
Step 6
Go to your "Styles and Effects" window and set it to show "Effects" and "All". You should see the icon for the effect.
